Anatomy of a #1 Beatport Hit

July 9

Bags_of_money

Picked up on this via the ever-excellent Fact mag - makes for interesting reading I think, especially if you are in the business of selling music. I've often thought that although the goalposts have moved hugely in the past 6 or 7 years since the digital revolution (can we still call it that?), right now there are more tools available than ever to help your music take those first tentative steps out of the bedroom and out into the big wide world. Of course, in this case the producers in question were already global stars and so were able to use methods not available to plebs like you and me, as well as having a huge number of fans in the first place, but still. Food for thought.

When I started Bodega Beatport only had maybe 100 releases/week. Those were the days! You could actually listen to everything in every genre, each week.

Our Beatport sales really dove when the trickle of tunes became an avalanche of new stuff. You just can't browse in the same way.
