Basement Jaxx - Red Alert (HeavyFeet vs. Nick Thayer Bootleg)
Whilst I was away on tour in Australia in April, I hooked up with our good friend Nick Thayer in Melbourne, and hopped in the studio to work on a new bootleg, just for fun. The idea of re-working 'Red Alert' was, in essence, quite simply to give it a 2011 update, as we both were lovers of the original (from 1999). We started off by going back to the original slap bass/guitar sample, replaying some layers on top of that for added 'chunk', sampling and then cutting up some key sections of what the Jaxx had done in their original, building a new groove, and finally adding a new vocal idea for something different.
Love and support has come flying in (trust, we've had a lot of feedback on this one!) from the likes of; DJ Fresh, Tom Findlay (Groove Armada), Rob Da Bank, DJ Craze, A-Skillz, Buraka Som Sistema, Jon Carter and Bird Peterson, as well as radio airplay from Kissy Sellout (BBC Radio 1) and Mash (Capital FM).
