Dorian Concept vs Echodub
January 7
I've been on a bit of a deep one lately, and that continues this morning - but it's really the only thing that's getting me through the cricket today. Come on Collingwood.
So anyway, being the slow, out-of-touch-ass fool that I am, I've just picked up this mix from Dorian Concept for the LuckyMe crew - it's already a whole week old! Still though, don't let it's antique nature put you off; its a brilliant showcase of his offbeat, soulful, wonky-yet-musical sound. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Get it from here - it's the latest one, number 57, but even if you don't want it you should follow that link to the LuckyMe mixtapes page and have a shufty. 57 mixes and counting from the likes of Kode9, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Terror Danjah, FaltyDL... a veritable treasure trove, I tell thee.
So get that, but then also get this - a free album from fellow Scots Echodub. Echodub started out as a pure netlabel, and I'm pretty impressed with the way they've built themselves up - from a free netlabel, to a standard digital label, to looking at vinyl releases. They release mainly the deeper side of dubstep and electronica, and have managed to gain a lot of respect by just focusing on quality control and a consistent sound. Ok, so that's the gushing out of the way, the point to all this being that I just downloaded a free compilation album from them - and guess what? It's great. Go here and check it out for yourselves - you may as well, it's free and all. Pick of the bunch for me is track one, Skyence's 'Precious Time' which builds up from analogue synth warmth to wonky 2-step and then back, and is seriously well produced for a free release. More on Skyence soon, in fact.
