Fred V - Simple Beginnings

February 25

Popova_birsk_landscape

I was just having a listen to the Mutated Forms mix for KMag earlier, and it opens with a criminally good roller - so I looked it up, and it's by a relative unknown producer called Fred V.  Which, er, isn't the coolest of DJ names, but never mind that - his track Simple Beginnings more than makes up for any moniker issues by being an absolute blinder.  Check it out in the youtube below, watch that drop and tell me you're not convinced he's gonna be one to watch over the next 18 months or so.  If you're feeling it, he's got a 10 minute mix also on youtube to check.

If you want to check the rest of the Mutated Forms mix, it's here.  I'm not entirely convinced about it structurally (nerd alert) but there are a few wicked beats nestling in there anyway:

it's Liubov Popova 'Birsk Landscape'. You can be fairly sure whenever I post a picture that looks basically like a bunch of triangles it's a Russian painter from about 1910-1920

yeah Vorticism was big. CMW Nevinson did well to combine his test batting career with avant garde abstract art IMO
