Free music - Universildo & Flying Lotus
It's a funny thing, this blogging and free music game. I want to throw loads of it out there, I really do - the only problem is, I don't want to be taking an mp3 "for promotional purposes" and sticking it up, even at 128k, unless the label or artist explicitly suggests it (and most don't). And then you get the stuff by DJ BedroomProducer, who has just started and is trying to get some press for his badly-produced efforts: good luck mate, keep at it, but if I wouldn't want to listen to it myself I'm afraid I won't be foisting it on others either. Try us again in a few months!
So it's reasonably rare that you get stuff that is really good, well produced, and actually free, but here are two releases that are just that. I'll start with an EP by Universildo, an Argentinean producer who writes beautiful, chilled out dubby electronica with quiet hints of cumbia (at least, I get that). He's released this 5 track EP on Hipi Duki Muzik through the creative commons licence, and it's brilliant. Download it for free here.
Secondly, check out this Flying Lotus remix of Thavius Beck. You know the drill; future-jazzhop with smoky atmospheres and tricky beats. The kicker on this is that it's available for one day only - so get on it!
