In the ongoing quest for labels to stand out in the crowd, Drawn Recordings seem to have some pretty good ideas. As well as releasing music, they seem to be involved with running some nights in Bristol, and also produce and publish a small magazine, which contains loads of artwork (hence 'Drawn', I guess) from up and coming artists. They give it out for free at their nights which is a good look in my opinion - I've just been flicking through the online copy of issue 5 and it's got some superb stuff in it. Check it out here.
Anyway, their next release is by a dude called Materia, and it's two tracks of garage inspired beats, but the winner for me is definitely the b-side, Underfall. It just clicks nicely with my love of square-wave, resonant-filtered, 200Hz-peaky bass sounds, crisp beats and sparse atmospheres. Yep, definitely feeling this one. Out next week via all the usual outlets.
