Grillo - I Had U Ken (Free EP)

Grillo's billing this one as an EP - who am I to argue - although to be fair, at 10 tracks I think he could get away with calling it an album and no-one would really mind too much. Anyway, this is a concept album/EP, with the concept being, er, Ken from Streetfighter. Which puts it firmly in keeping with the current trend for referencing 90's video games in bass music (even heard a Sonic theme in a Joker set recently) and this one even features a chiptune/glitch hop cover version of Ken's theme from the game. The whole EP is pretty solid in fact; deep, loping beats, a dollop of glitch, and mellow harmonies livened up by lo-fi bitcrushing. Extra props for the 9 minute epic closing track, which ties everything in really well. I've listened to it a couple of times this week already - give it a spin!
