Free Airship remix

September 7

Week four (of eight)!

This week's remix offering is of Airship, another great Manchester-based band, who were involved in 'Manchester : Remixed' with us in July. 'Algebra' is actually the track that first put me on to the band initially, but it's recently been re-released ahead of their debut album, 'Stuck In The Ocean', which was released this week on Pias, so it seemed like the perfect track to remix for the project. 'Algebra' is written in a 3/4 time signature, and around the 145bpm mark, so similar to last week's remix of Santiago Street Machine, we thought we'd work the remix around a similar tempo to the original (seeing as sticking to the original song, where possible, was one of the goals of the project). Sticking to the 3/4 feel proved interesting at first, especially as we went down a dubsteppy route with the remix, but we think, all things considered, it's come out pretty well.

Airship can be found constantly touring throughout Europe, so if you like the original, be sure to check them out live. I had the pleasure of seeing these guys play a benefit gig in a tiny pub near to where our studio is (in the middle of nowhere) not so long back, and they were very tight as a live act. Check out the original of 'Algebra' below:
