The John Peel Lecture - Pete Townshend (audio)

November 2

I would strongly urge those blog readers who are themselves musicians, producers, singer-songwriters, engineers, and especially... music lovers, to have a listen to Pete Townshend's keynote speech from this years Radio Festival (industry conference) which is rolling out at Media City UK, Salford (up North, where much of the BBC has recently moved to in the UK).

There are some fascinating points made here, and especially from a musician who's had such success. It's very rare a person of such stature makes real, valid points that would, in my opinion, if implemented, for grassroots and up-coming artists, make a huge difference to the creative system.

I hope you can find an hour in your day (in the next 5 days) to listen. There is a transcript available here if you don't have a full hour to listen to this. I read the transcript first, but the audio definitely makes more sense as the transcript is a little confusing, you need to be able to hear his mannerisms and jokes (which aren't obvious on the transcript). I'd suggest reading the transcript, then listening.
