Weekend Mixes

February 24

I blogged Thefft's excellent 'Primer EP' on Cut a while back, and his mix this week for the FEM Blog showcases more his style of deep, beatsy funk.  There's a real broken beat vibe in there, which suits me nicely, but it's brought up to date for 2012, toughened up, fine tuned for today's hefty sound systems, spliced with the broken techno of the current bass music lot and given a darker atmosphere redolent of early dubstep to boot.  You'll be hearing a lot more from this dude.  Click through to the interview and download or just stream here:

Moving on, have you heard who's done the new Fabric CD?  That's right, it's only the legendary DJ Sneak. The don of the bumpty house scene, Sneak is one of those people who keep music interesting - from his famously outlandish interviews to his sick chunky beats, we're massive fans here.  Cop the CD from the fabric site (it's out now) and listen to this promo mix I just found for it on soundcloud:

Last of all, and this one will probably last you all weekend, I'm going to link to the Andy Weatherall & Sean Johnston set from DirtyTalk at Bristol's TB2 recently.  TB2 archive most of the sets by their headline DJs and while some are less impressive once you hear them back home in the cold light of day, some of them are spectacular.  Like this one, from one of dance music's most enduring cult heroes.  Andy & Sean have been running 'A Love From Outer Space' - their own slow clubnight ("never knowingly exceeding 122BPM" which is still pretty pacey if you ask me) for a while now and this saw TB2 get a five-hour taste of the vibes.  I wasn't there and have been slapping my forehead in anguished dismay ever since I heard this mix.  Gah.
